Definition of Jólabókaflóðið: Roughly translates to Yule Book Flood. Icelands Christmas Eve book tradition.
🎄The NPR reported “Icelanders publish more books per capita than any other country in the world, with five titles published for ever 1,000 Icelanders. But whats unusual is the timing: Historically, a majority of books in Iceland are sold from late September to early November. Its a national tradition, hence the name Jolabokaflod, or the “Yule Book Flood”.
🎄“Every year since 1944, the Icelandic book trade has published a catalogue – called Bókatíðindi (‘Book Bulletin’, in English) – that is sent to every household in the country in mid-November during the Reykjavik Book Fair. People use the catalogue to order books to give friends and family for Christmas”- Link
